The WordPress dashboard will tell you if there are plugins that need updating either on the update menu, plugin option on the tool bar or the alert toolbar.
To update your plugins click on any of the above buttons and it will take to the plugin page or pages or the dedicated plugin update page.
The update page allows you to see what plugins need updating, it will also show you other elements such as themes and WordPress core, covered in other articles. To update plugins select the plugins you wish to update and click the update button
All your plugins are accessible from clicking on the plugins button in the menu. The plugin page will list all plugins not just ones that need updating, but the ones needing an update will be clear and have an update link.
Itβs important to remember a couple of things while maintaining your website:
Always take a backup before updating. That way if things go wrong you can roll back the changes
Always test on your staging site. You should always test your plugins on your staging site before update.
Your website will not be accessible when running updates. Your website will be placed in maintenance mode until updates are completed. This means users will be presented with a maintenance mode holding screen
